Two films, each on its own window

In Portugal, dark films may only go on the windows behind the B-pillar. In front of it, only films from a separate section of the IMT list are allowed. So we pick the right film for every window.

Our films are on the official IMT list

The IMT publishes the list of films whose homologation is recognised in Portugal. The approval number is printed on the film itself, and it is what the inspector checks. The list is public — anyone can confirm it.

Why a clear film

Group 1

The WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies UV radiation as carcinogenic to humans — the same group as tobacco.

IARC Monographs, vol. 100D
83%

of new melanomas worldwide in 2022 were caused by UV radiation.

IARC, 2025
UVA

Side windows let part of the UVA rays through, and UVA reaches the deep layers of the skin.

J Am Acad Dermatol, 2006; Photodermatol Photoimmunol Photomed, 2013

The film is not a treatment and does not replace sunscreen or sunglasses. It reduces the UV that passes through the glass while the window is closed.

Legal, with no trouble at inspection

What the law requires

Every film must be homologated and, once fitted, registered on the car's papers at an extraordinary inspection. Behind the B-pillar you may go dark, as long as the car has both exterior mirrors. In front, only films from the separate section of the IMT list.

What we do

We fit each window with the film allowed for it, show you the homologation number and explain how to register the change.

FAQ

Is insulfilm the same thing?
Yes. In Brazil window film is called insulfilm; in Portugal, película de vidros or vidros fumados.
Is window tinting legal in Portugal?
Yes, with a homologated film registered on the car's papers. At the back, any homologated film; in front, only films from the separate section of the IMT list, such as AU 85.
Can I tint the front windows?
Not with a dark film. In front we fit AU 85, a clear film: it stops UV without changing how the car looks.
Does a clear film really block UV?
Yes. According to the maker's data sheet, AU 85 blocks over 99% of UV radiation (300–380 nm). UV protection does not depend on how dark a film is.
How long does it take?
Usually 2 to 4 hours. Keep the windows up for the first few days.
What does the inspector see?
The approval number printed on the film — for example, D 5683 on AU 85. With it, the film can be found on the IMT list.
